Moss Agate Slice Cabinet Knobs
About the Agate
Cut thin, moss agate stops being a pale gray pebble and becomes a window. The body is translucent quartz and the dark green threads inside it read as trees, ferns or smoke depending on how the mineral happened to branch as the stone formed.
Held up to a lamp the green stands out against a lit ground; flat on a cabinet in daylight it looks quieter and closer to gray-green. Density varies, so one slice can be lightly veined and the next almost crowded.
How It’s Made
The nodule is sliced across so the section runs through the middle of the inclusions, which is what opens the pattern out to full width, and both faces are polished. The cut edge is then electroformed: real metal grown onto the stone until the rim has thickness of its own and is permanently bonded, never a leaf or coating that can rub off. That rim is what holds a thin slice safely and carries the bolt.
Details
- Material: natural moss agate slice with copper and brass fittings
- Set size: one knob with its bolt
- Width: 1.5" - 2.5" across the face
- Projection: 1"
- Bolt: 1.75", which can be trimmed to size
- Edges can be done in gold, silver or rose gold.
No two slices carry the same pattern, and the outline and width differ from one to the next.
Fit and Installation
It suits cabinet doors, drawers and dresser fronts with a single drilled hole. The 1.75" bolt is supplied and can be trimmed to size, so no additional hardware is needed. Hold the rim rather than the slice as you tighten, and tighten by hand instead of over-torquing.
Care
Clean with a soft dry cloth. Household cleaners and abrasives dull both the polished slice and the metal edge.
