Vizend — Striped Art Deco Round Wool Rug in Terracotta, Tan & Espresso

Vizend cuts the circle into panels and fills each one with parallel stripes running at a different angle. Diagonals meet edge to edge, verticals drop through the lower half, and a broad arch rises through the centre — so the eye keeps turning as one direction hands over to the next.

Fine cream dashes run along the seams where panels meet, like stitching holding the pieces together. It is a hand-tufted round rug with Art Deco bones and a warm, earthy palette that keeps it from feeling severe.

Colour Story

  • Terracotta / Clay — warm brick tones across the lower panels
  • Tan & Peach — soft salmon-beige stripes that carry the light
  • Espresso Brown — near-black stripes that give the design its structure
  • Rust — deeper red-brown panels at the edges
  • Cream — fine dashed seam lines between the panels

Hand Tufted in Bhadohi, India

Every Vizend rug is handcrafted in our own workshop in Bhadohi, in the heart of India's carpet belt. Artisans hand-tuft 100% New Zealand wool into a cotton canvas backing using a hand-held tufting gun, then hand-carve every stripe edge.

Stripes are the hardest thing to get right in a hand-tufted rug. Each one has to hold a constant width along its whole length, stay perfectly parallel to its neighbours, and then stop cleanly where the panel changes direction. On a circle, every stripe also meets the curved edge at a different point. All of that is judged by eye and cut by hand.

New Zealand wool is used for a reason — it is naturally springy, stain-resistant, flame-resistant and holds dye brilliantly, which is what keeps this range of browns distinct from one another instead of merging.

Available Sizes

Seven round diameters: 3 Feet, 4 Feet, 5 Feet, 6 Feet, 8 Feet, 10 Feet and 12 Feet.

  • 3–4 ft — entryways, bedsides, reading nooks, under a small side table
  • 5–6 ft — coffee table anchor, nursery, home office chair zone
  • 8 ft — the most popular living room size; front legs of the sofa sit on the rug
  • 10–12 ft — large open-plan living rooms and round dining tables, with chairs staying on the rug when pulled out

The panel composition reads best when most of it is visible — at 6 ft and above the changes in direction are clear rather than cropped by furniture.

Styling Notes

Vizend is warm enough to soften a hard room and graphic enough to hold a plain one. It looks exceptional against cream plaster or limewash walls, pale oak or travertine floors, and tan or cognac leather seating. Brass, rattan and terracotta pottery all suit it; so does a single deep-green plant. Ideal for Art Deco, mid-century and warm minimalist interiors, and a strong choice for a dining room where the stripes radiate under a round table.

Care Instructions

  • Dry clean only — do not machine wash, soak or steam clean
  • Vacuum regularly without a beater bar; use suction only on cut pile
  • Vacuum along the direction of the stripes so the pile stays lying evenly
  • Blot spills immediately with a clean dry cloth — never rub
  • Easy to clean: the dense wool pile releases dust and dirt with routine vacuuming
  • Shedding is normal on a new wool rug for the first few weeks and settles with vacuuming
  • Trim any sprouting tufts with scissors — never pull them
  • Rotate every 6 months for even wear and consistent light exposure
  • Use an anti-slip rug pad underneath to stop movement and extend the life of the pile
  • Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading on the terracotta
  • Air the rug outdoors in shade occasionally to refresh the wool
