Mustard Agate Slice Cabinet Knobs
About the Agate
Mustard agate is a warm yellow-brown, the color running through the body of the stone rather than sitting on the face. Bands of deeper amber alternate with paler, sandier layers, and some pieces carry a near-white zone at the center where the quartz grew last.
It reads warm against cool paint and settles quietly into oak or walnut. Where the banding is thin the stone passes a little light and the yellow turns honey.
How It’s Made
Each knob is sliced from a nodule and rounded off, leaving a flat face rather than a dome so the bands stay readable end to end. The edge is electroformed, meaning real metal is grown onto the agate until the rim has real thickness and is bonded permanently, not a leaf or coating that can rub off.
Details
- Material: natural mustard agate with copper and brass fittings
- Set size: one knob with its bolt
- Width: 1.5" to 2.5" across the face
- Projection: 1" from the cabinet face
- Bolt: 1.75", which can be trimmed to size
- Edges can be done in gold, silver or rose gold.
Each piece is cut from its own stone, so the depth of the yellow and the pattern of the bands are never repeated exactly.
Fit and Installation
It mounts with one bolt on cabinet doors, drawers and dresser fronts. The 1.75" bolt is included and can be trimmed for a thin door, so nothing else is required. Tighten by hand so the agate is not loaded hard against the door face.
Care
A soft dry cloth is enough. Skip household cleaners entirely; they leave a haze on polished agate.
