About the Agate

Blue agate reads as a cool stone. Its bands move from chalk white through pale sky to a deep ink line, and because chalcedony is faintly translucent the light bands look as though they sit a little under the surface rather than on it.

Toward the middle of a slab the banding often opens into a pocket of small quartz crystals, clear or white, which catches light differently from the polished ground around it. Away from the pocket the stone is smooth and even, and the blue deepens wherever the layers stack thickest.

How It’s Made

The slab is left with the outline it came off the vein with, so the edge is a natural break rather than a cut circle. The face is ground level and polished to bring the bands up, then metal is electroformed along the raw rim, grown onto the stone until the layer has real thickness and a permanent bond that also protects the exposed edge. The legs are electroformed to the same finish. Silver is the quietest against blue, gold gives the most contrast, and rose gold warms the pale bands.

Slight variation in natural stone will occur, and with an organic edge the outline of each top is its own. Other sizes and shapes can be made to order on request.

Assembly

Legs are removable, and the table is easily assembled on delivery by screwing them onto the underside of the top. No other work is involved.

Care

Dust with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Soak up spills immediately with a paper towel and wipe dry so the stone does not stain, and avoid chemical cleaners.
