About the Agate

Aqua agate holds its blue-green in bands that follow the outline of the piece, pale at the rim and stronger toward the middle where the layers built up thickest. Between the colored bands sit thin white or gray lines, and at the center there is often a small pocket of clear quartz crystal left over from the cavity the stone grew in.

The color is at its best with light behind it. Thin edges turn almost turquoise and pass light, while the denser bands stay soft and cloudy. Against a lamp the same knob that read pale in daylight shows a green note running through the blue.

How It’s Made

Each knob is a single piece of agate, cut and finished by hand, which is why the width runs between sizes rather than landing on one. The outer edge is electroformed, real metal grown onto the stone and permanently bonded rather than a leaf or coating that can rub off, in thick metallic gold. The rim carries the threaded fitting on the back.

No two are exactly alike: the banding, the outline and the strength of the blue all change from piece to piece.

Fit and Installation

Fits cabinet doors, drawers and wardrobe fronts on a single drilled hole. No additional hardware is required, and the 1.75" bolt can be trimmed to suit the thickness of the door. Tighten with care, by hand, rather than over-torquing it against the stone.

Care

Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Household cleaners will attack the electroformed edge before they touch the agate, so keep them away from both.
