About the Amethyst

Amethyst grows as a crowd of points rather than as one stone. Each point ends in a small six-sided pyramid, and the purple sits mostly in the tip, thinning down the shaft to pale gray where the crystal started. A cluster holds dozens of those tips at slightly different angles, so the color reads as a scatter of darker and lighter faces.

A polished amethyst dome shows its color as a smooth gradient under a closed surface. A raw cluster does the opposite: the faces are flat and bright as they grew, and catch light one at a time as the drawer moves. Held to a window the thin tips glow violet while the base stays opaque.

How It’s Made

The clusters are left as they formed and trimmed only at the base so they seat square. That base is electroformed: real metal is grown onto the stone until the collar has thickness of its own and is permanently bonded, never a leaf or coating that can rub off. Each cluster is then screwed tightly onto the end of a stainless steel rod.

Details

  • Material: natural amethyst clusters, stainless steel rod, electroformed metal
  • Set size: 4 handles
  • Height: 35 mm / 1.38 inches, the protrusion from the surface without the cluster knob
  • Total length: about 170 mm / 6.7 inches including the gemstone clusters
  • Hole to hole: 101 mm / 4 inches
  • Finish: electroformed metal on the clusters

Every cluster breaks from its own piece of rough, so the two ends of one handle differ in outline and in depth of purple.

Fit and Installation

These mount on drawers, cabinet doors and wardrobe fronts on a two-screw fixing drilled 101 mm / 4 inches hole to hole. The cluster knobs thread onto the steel rod and can be turned back down by hand if one works loose. Tighten the fixings by hand rather than over-torquing them.

Care

Wipe the rod and the metal collars with a soft dry cloth, and dust the crystal points with a dry brush.
