The Plaque

A plain rectangle with a lightly textured ground and no border, no motif and no ornament of any kind. The writing is the entire design. It fills the field the way it filled the paper, at whatever angle and spacing it was written.

Everything that could distract from the words has been left off on purpose.

What you send, and what comes back

You send a photograph of the note. We sculpt it. The two sit side by side in the listing images so you can see how little changes between them. Line breaks stay where they were. A word squeezed in above the line stays squeezed in above the line. A signature that runs off the edge runs off the edge.

Craftsmanship

The letters are grown in real copper and brass over a sculpted form and stand 2 to 5 mm off the ground, each one throwing its own shadow across the texture behind it. There is no border and no motif on this design to sit at a different height, so the writing is carrying the whole piece on its own; the relief is the only thing giving it depth. The plaque is 8 to 10 mm thick and solid all the way through.

A thank-you note from a child. A line left on the kitchen table. A signature. A drawing. Something written in a language nobody else in the house reads. It does not have to be beautiful handwriting and it usually is not.

Personalization

The handwriting, and nothing else. There is no date panel on this design; if you want dates, they need to be in the original writing. Photograph the note flat, in daylight, with all four edges in frame. A design preview comes back by email and nothing is made until you have approved it.

Built to last

Sealed under a UV-protective finish once the patina is applied. Direct sun will not fade it and damp will not mark it.

Because there is no border eating into the field, this design fits more writing per inch than the others. A four-line note is comfortable at 7 x 5.

Mounting

Three ways, chosen at checkout.

• Keyhole slots: two screws in the wall, lifts on and off.
• Peel-and-stick tape: sealed strips already applied to the back, no drilling.
• Floating stud mount: reinforced studs that stand it clear of the wall, which suits this design particularly since the shadow underneath becomes part of it.

Hardware and instructions are included with all three.

A desk wall, a study, a stair landing, an office. Its plainness lets it sit next to photographs and framed prints without arguing with them.
