Hand Tufted Half Moon Geometric Round Wool Rug | Petrol Blue & Cream | Gerbit by Rugfine
Gerbit — Half Moon Geometric Round Wool Rug in Petrol Blue & Cream
Gerbit is built from rings. Six concentric bands step inward from deep petrol blue at the edge through slate teal, powder blue and pale sage to a cream centre, so the circle seems to glow from within. At its heart, two triangles point toward each other across a half moon split by a single band, and two solid blue dots sit on the vertical axis above and below.
The half moon — mezza luna — is where the design takes its character. Together with the triangles and dots it reads almost as a symbol, calm and deliberate. A hand-tufted round rug that brings stillness to a room.
Colour Story
- Petrol Blue — the deepest outer ring, the two dots and the half moon
- Slate Teal — the second ring and the two triangles
- Powder Blue — the soft middle rings
- Pale Sage — a faint green step toward the centre
- Cream — the luminous centre of the circle
Hand Tufted in Bhadohi, India
Every Gerbit rug is handcrafted in our own workshop in Bhadohi, in the heart of India's carpet belt. Artisans hand-tuft 100% New Zealand wool into a cotton canvas backing, to a dense 4000 GSM, then hand-carve every ring.
Concentric rings are only possible on a round rug, and they are harder to tuft than they look. Each ring has to hold a constant width all the way around the circle, and each colour step has to be even with the one before it — if one ring is slightly wider or one tone slightly off, the gradient stops reading as smooth and starts to look banded.
New Zealand wool is used for a reason — it is naturally springy, stain-resistant, flame-resistant and takes dye evenly, which is essential when six closely related blues have to step down in perfect order.

Available Sizes
Seven round diameters: 3 Feet, 4 Feet, 5 Feet, 6 Feet, 8 Feet, 10 Feet and 12 Feet.
- 3–4 ft — entryways, bedsides, reading nooks, under a small side table
- 5–6 ft — coffee table anchor, nursery, home office chair zone
- 8 ft — the most popular living room size; front legs of the sofa sit on the rug
- 10–12 ft — large open-plan living rooms and round dining tables, with chairs staying on the rug when pulled out
The central motif sits on a vertical axis, so orient the rug with the two dots running away from you as you enter the room.
Styling Notes
Gerbit is one of the calmest rugs in the collection. The cool blue-to-cream gradient suits bedrooms, bathrooms, nurseries and reading corners, and works well in coastal and Scandinavian schemes. Pair it with pale oak, white or linen upholstery, rattan and brushed brass; a single petrol blue cushion ties it to the room. Ideal for mid-century, minimalist and contemporary interiors.
Care Instructions
- Dry clean only — do not machine wash, soak or steam clean
- Vacuum regularly without a beater bar; use suction only on cut pile
- Blot spills immediately with a clean dry cloth — never rub; act fast on the cream centre
- Easy to clean: the dense wool pile releases dust and dirt with routine vacuuming
- Shedding is normal on a new wool rug for the first few weeks and settles with vacuuming
- Trim any sprouting tufts with scissors — never pull them
- Rotate every 6 months for even wear and consistent light exposure
- Use an anti-slip rug pad underneath to stop movement and extend the life of the pile
- Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading on the blues
- Air the rug outdoors in shade occasionally to refresh the wool
